CAMBRIDGE RAISES £ 1 BILLION TO “TRANSFORM TOMORROW”
As Cambridge has now celebrated its 800th Anniversary, University and College leaders are united in their ambition to shape Cambridge’s future on the world stage, with major investments in four areas.  The focus is on students & staff, strengthening endowments that underpin excellence,  academic freedom, and global competitiveness:

  Students
Students. Seek out and attract the brightest students from around the world, with substantial increases in needs-based financial support for undergraduates and fully funded scholarships for graduate students. Strengthen international student exchange programs. Enhance College facilities and accommodations to satisfy the needs of changing and diverse student populations.

  Staff
Staff. Create endowed chairs for distinguished academics, in many fields.  Sustain and enhance the supervision-based teaching model that lies at the heart of Cambridge’s excellence. Build new facilities and refurbish historic buildings to fit today’s research and teaching needs. Establish new multidisciplinary programs that cross traditional boundaries while drawing on Cambridge’s existing strengths.

Freedom to discover

Freedom to discover. Take risks without the prospect of immediate, tangible reward; back and sustain singular talent in all fields. Provide young academics with the opportunity to explore new ideas and pursue research without significant teaching or administrative duties. Develop centers for excellence, such as the Centre for International Studies and the Isaac Newton Institute for Mathematical Sciences, to engage international communities of scholars in innovative, collaborative research.

  Collections and architectural heritage
Collections and architectural heritage. Carefully maintain and steward some of Britain’s – and the world’s – finest art and architecture, for future generations.  Seek endowments to support great collections for teaching, research, and architectural heritage. Increase the accessibility and value of these collections to the world at large.
