Cambridge in America invites you to join author Claire Messud (Jesus College) while she is on tour!
Claire Messud was educated at Cambridge and Yale. Her first novel, When the World Was Steady, and a subsequent book, The Hunters, were both finalists for the PEN/Faulkner Award; her second novel, The Last Life, was a Publishers Weekly Best Book of the Year and Editor's Choice at The Village Voice. Three of her books were New York Times Notable Books of the Year. She has been awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship and a Radcliffe Fellowship, and in 2003 received the Strauss Living Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters.
 A new novel from the author of The Emperor's Children (2007). "Ms. Messud's writing shows a growing mastery of mood. Comedy, pathos, sadness: nothing seems beyond her. A PICTURE OF AUTUMN, by N.C. Hunter, is a sensitive, intelligent and comic depiction of one family's attempt to grow old gracefully. AUTUMN tells the story of Charles and Margaret Denham, living in disarray in the decaying ancestral home with ancient Uncle Harry and senile Nanny. Their son Robert returns to England after several years abroad and finds that both the house and its occupants have faded from past glory. When an opportunity to sell the burdensome property arises, Robert leaps at the chance to help his parents downsize.
