Sunday, January 11, 2026, 1.00pm to 4.00pm EST
Join us for a visit to the Leventhal Map Center inside Boston Public Library's Central Library in Copley Square. We will be given a private tour of the permanent exhibition Becoming Boston: Eight Moments in the Geography of a Changing City as well as the rotating exhibition Terrains of Independence.
Terrains of Independence explores why the American Revolution began in and around Boston. "The commercial geography of the city and its region, zones of friction between classes and communities, and contestations over the environment all helped to create the conditions that led to an era of revolutionary upheaval in Massachusetts. In the Leventhal Map & Education Center’s exhibition Terrains of Independence, maps will offer the entry point to a reconsideration of the Revolutionary War through the lens of locality and place."
Reservation for the event is required and tickets cost $10 per person which will be donated to the map center. Book your tickets online here. Registration closes on January 8th. *Event is currently sold out
