The Gates Cambridge Scholar program, made possible by a generous endowment gift from the (then) Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, is an international scholarship program for outstanding graduate students to study at Cambridge. Its primary mission is to build a global network of leaders committed to improving the lives of others and addressing global challenges.
Now, in its 26th year, the program has created a unique legacy, a community of accomplished, empowered, attuned leaders dedicating themselves to making the world a better place. Among its alumni are entrepreneurs, scientists, and literary artists. Their careers are filled with challenges and promise. Their take on the world is unique and fascinating.
So, now what?, a podcast from Gates Cambridge, features conversations with members of this cadre of outstanding international Cambridge postgraduates, the big thinkers from a range of different backgrounds and disciplines out there finding solutions to some of the world’s most challenging problems, from the global economy and the environment to technology, politics and universal healthcare.
The podcast, now in its third season, hosted by journalist Catherine Galloway, is produced by Gates Cambridge Scholarship program communications officer Mandy Garner. “The podcast series has consistently been about leadership in some way, shape or form, and unpacks the idea of what it means to lead. There is no one type of hero,” said Garner.
A common thread to the discussions is optimism. “They describe their experiences, ambitions, and goals,” said Garner. “But they also invite listeners to join them - sharing 'So, now what?' actions that we can all apply today.”
