
Danielle Allen is a renowned political theorist and scholar, widely recognized for her work on democracy, justice and political philosophy. Allen is the James Bryant Conant University Professor at Harvard University. She was the 2020 recipient of the Library of Congress’ Kluge Prize for her remarkable scholarship in political theory. She is the author of several influential books, including Our Declaration: A Reading of the Declaration of Independence in Defense of Equality and The World of Prometheus: The Politics of Punishing in Democratic Theory. She is currently a contributing columnist for The Atlantic Magazine, and from 2008-2024 wrote a column for The Washington Post on constitutional democracy. She is also an advocate for the role of education in fostering democratic engagement and social equality and is the Director of the Allen Lab for Democracy Renovation.
