Gary Gerstle is Paul Mellon Professor of American History Emeritus at the University of Cambridge. He is the author, editor, and coeditor of more than ten books including The Rise and Fall of the Neoliberal Order: America and the World in the Free Market Era (2022). The book has been translated into multiple languages, made ‘Best Books’ lists in the US, UK, the Netherlands, and India, and was shortlisted for the 2022 Financial Times Best Business Book of the Year. Gerstle has written for the Guardian, the New Statesman, the New York Review of Books, the Atlantic, Dissent, the Nation, and Project Syndicate, among others. He frequently appears on BBC Radio 4, BBC World Service, NPR, and has done many podcasts, including the Ezra Klein Show. He is at Harvard this year writing a new book, Politics in Our Time: Authoritarian Peril and Democratic Hope in the Twenty-First Century. Read the full bio.
