Join our Book Club!

Cambridge Alumni of Northern California invites you to join a new Book Club series featuring engaging discussions, thoughtful conversation, and great company. One of the books we'll explore is The Odyssey, one of the most enduring stories ever told - an epic adventure and story of struggle and triumph, of finding one's way home.

The Odyssey is an epic adventure: a story of struggle and triumph, of finding one's way home. Perhaps you've seen Christopher Nolan’s blockbuster film and would like to explore the book that inspired it. Then join the Cambridge Alumni of Northern California as we read and discuss Homer's Odyssey. You will discover a world of complex characters—men and women, as well as monsters, sorceresses, and gods. Homer explores our identities of self, family, and community and the conflicts that can arise when we encounter people who come from elsewhere. Pride and love, violence and compassion, temptation, fear, discovery . . . The Odyssey has it all.  No wonder Homer's poem has spoken to people for two thousand years.

Led by Sean Forester (Gonville & Caius, 2000), the series will bring alumni together for three Zoom sessions and a special in-person book club session focusing on the Odyssey and holiday event where we will also celebrate the holiday season at The Berkeley Yacht Club, featuring food, wine, and conversation.
