Dr Nicholas Guyatt is Reader in North American History in the Faculty of History and a Fellow of Jesus College.

Dr Guyatt's interests focus on questions of race, empire and citizenship in the late eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. He is particularly interested in the construction of racial categories and in the relationship between universalist ideas (especially ideas of equality) and the management of racial diversity in the early American republic. 

Gary Gerstle arrived in Cambridge in 2014 after a three-decade career in the United States, most recently at Vanderbilt University where he was James G. Stahlman Professor of American History. He is currently Paul Mellon Professor of American History and Fellow of Sidney Sussex College. He is a social and political historian of the twentieth century, with substantial interests in the late eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. He received his BA from Brown University and his MA and PhD from Harvard University. He is a Fellow of the British Academy and of the Royal Historical Societ

Dr Ella McPherson is Senior Lecturer in the Sociology of New Media and Digital Technology as well as the Anthony L. Lyster Fellow in Sociology at Queens’ College. She is also Co-Director of the Centre of Governance and Human Rights, where she leads the research theme on human rights in the digital age. At the Department of Sociology, Ella is Director of Undergraduate Education and Coordinator of the MPhil Pathway in Media and Culture. Ella is on the Executive Committee of Cambridge’s Trust and Technology Initiative and leads The Whistle, an academic startup, funded by the ESRC and an EU Research and Innovation Horizon 2020 grant, that aims to support the collection and verification of digital human rights evidence.
